Are there any episodes you skip?

I know it's sad but my husband and l have watched the series through at least ten times and there are a few episodes I like to skip. I was wondering if anyone else is the same. I dong know episode numbers but I skip:

- The one that explains the back story with Toby's dad.

- The 9/11 'special'

- The one where CJ goes home for a school reunion and visits her dad

- The one which is a series of interviews; a day in the life of a White House press secretary.

And I would happily skip the following if my husband would agree:

- The one where Sam finds out his dad is a cheater

- The one where the North Korean pianist asks to defect.

The Cuba one. Apart from that, there's not really any better way to spend 42 minutes!!

There's 10 types of people. Those who get binary, those who don't & those who don't expect base 3.

The one where Josh has PTSD

reply

Most of Season 5!

In fact it would be easier to say which episodes I actually don't skip from that much maligned season (Han, Separation of Powers, Warfare of Ghengis Khan. The Supremes)

And the first 6 episodes of S6, were a bit hit and miss too.

reply

20 hours in America wasn't that bad, but it should have been only 10 hours in America. Definitely keep the parts with Amy Adams in it

reply

I don't skip full episodes. But I skip any part with Amy in it. I dislike the character and her facial expressions. Her and Kristen Stewart would be great as a mother and daughter, they can't act.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one, Againstthetide!
I think that Amy is the only mistake in the whole series.
I am not sure if it's the actress' fault, but I'm sure I profoundly dislike the type of woman Amy is, so entitled that they think they can crap on anybody just to pursue their purpose. The scene in which she cuts Josh's phone cord drives me so nuts, I always skip it.

reply

Yeah. In early season 5, when the entire country is worried about Zoe, all Amy wants to do is talk about women issues and she gets Josh paranoid about the idea that the republicans are gonna do damage to women issues. The scene where Walken's CoS shuts Josh down in the bathroom (which sounds weird without context) is a great scene.

reply

@aurafasss I think that Amy is the only mistake in the whole series.
Mandy, anyone? Or did you have her wiped from your memory?

reply

@Whedonbuff
If 10 times is sad our house is downright pathetic lol! For the most part we go through only leaving one episode out in particular. The long goodbye with CJ visited her dad. It is a fine episode and big CJ fans but very hard to watch again and again. Otherwise we have no other skipped episodes. Although Tomorrow is hard since it's proof that it is all done. Oh how in this age of TV series revivals has TWW not come back?????

reply

I must admit to have never fully watched the live Debate episode. I was a very early devotee of Alan Alda back to the days that he was a panelist on "What' My Line?" and the movie, "Paper Lion," but I wasn't fond of him on TWW. So I skipped a lot of Seasons 6 & 7. If Martin Sheen wasm't in it, I didn't watch it more than once.

I also avoid the CJ father story.

I recently purchas d the entire series from iTunes since Netflix doesn't seem to carry it anymore. I have been hospitalized for over four months with limited WiFi, with most of my vision gone, so TWW is good listen. Aaron Sorkin's writing is like music.

All the world is a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed.

So, you skip more than you watch.

reply

You skip some of my favorites, especially in season 1-2. I love the holiday episodes like the Indians in the lobby and shibboleth. I skip several episodes though in season 5 and several in 6. I usually don't skip any others from the earlier seasons though unless they have a lot of Mandy in then. That being said I skip the first 3 episodes

reply

LMayberry- sorry to hear of your hospitalization and loss of vision. I check TWW thread regularly and I've noticed your posts have always been reasoned and insightful and I hope you are able to continue to post. Wishing you the very best:)

I too avoid the CJ back story episode. Not that it is not compelling, although could do without her fling with Matthew Modine, but even my 74th rewatch of Noel or my personal favorite, Bartlet for America, keeps me engaged and in awe of the mentioned music of dialogue. Watch it again..so many great actors thriving in the script. My favorite part is when Leo recounts Bartlet making the debate a holy site, as baseball pitchers do the pitching mound, and that "He sees it as the best way to help the team. He loves teams. I love him so much" ...gets me every time

reply

The only one I usually skip is The Debate. Not the same as watching it live.

reply

Two that you mention - CJ going home and the one with the film crew following her around. Not that I don't like CJ, I love her, just not those episodes.

reply

I think those are the only two I skip as well

And many of s5 6 and 7 in the whitehouse, iTs obvious that the whole budget is in e campain With Santos'. The white house scenes are fillers, many close ups in the dark, we see hardly staff and the plot is foreign.

reply

These are the only two I skip in full. I do tend to fast forward through Amy in the episodes she's in.
