Help with ID'g an episode, please?

It's the one with "musical ambassadors." One has to be fired for having an affair, and eventually Bartlet asks a friend of his, the CEO (?) of a major company, to give him ("a good man, a fine man!") a job (as he knows, and is fond of, the man's wife.) (Paraphrasing: CEO: "May I ask why he's being fired?" Bartlet: "Gross incompetence. I'll be right back.")

And Charlie knows the guy being fired as he used to work at a (segregated) country club to which he belonged. Bartlet finds out they're acquainted and chides Charlie for having mocked his finely honed sense of - something? - as he'd sensed that Charlie was familiar with his name when it was first mentioned.

Thanks in advance!

reply

Oops, I forgot I had two. The other is the one in which Bartlet makes a derogatory comment about Ritchie, "not knowing" that his mic is still on?

reply

"Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics" from Season 1 was the musical ambassadors episode. The one with the open mike was Season 3's "U.S. Poet Lauriate."

Thanks so much!! (Hope I'm not freaking you out with such a speedy reply.)

I'm so happy that "Lies" is one of these, as I believe this episode includes one of my favorite "guest characters," Barry Haskell!

I wished that Austin Pendleton had been seen again. I had liked him since seeing "What's Up Doc?" as a teenager.

Glad to be able to help you out.

I wish we could have seen him again, too.

I love the "bit of business" he does - quickly wiping his (no doubt sweaty) palm on his pants leg in preparation of shaking some *very* important hands - in that room where they "keep the water." I've always wondered if this was per direction, or improvised by AP.

reply

I don't know if it was improvised or not. I have several WW scripts and most actions are scripted.

There were several characters I wish we had seen more of but didn't.

(My final question of you, I promise!) Another character I loved was the guy who kept track of gifts, art, etc. He was hilariously rude to C.J., commenting snidely on her height, and taste in jewelry. He was in two episodes, I believe. In the first, a woman becomes hysterical during a tour when she sees a painting by her father on the wall, and I think the second had to do with someone's having broken a gift that had been given to the President.

Thanks for any info.

That was actor Paxton Whiteheaad as Bernard.

The episodes were:

Noel from Season 2
A Change is Gonna Come from Season 6

And I don't mind the questions. I am in the hospital now and bored silly. I am limited to my iPad and what I can do with it.
