Hi guys,
Is this old man in the beginning related to Sadako? I have not seen this movie in a very long time and would like to know how he fits into the storyline. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

He's Shizuko's cousin, therefore he's Sadako's cousin too.

He's Shizuko's cousin, per Ringu [1]. And Ryuji correctly surmised that Takashi traded in on the mother and daughter's psychic abilities by selling them out to the media and the scientists.

What is odd is that Sadako would rather kill people who watch her video than kill him, who brought the people to the island who called her and her mother freaks, which lead to her mother's suicide.
