Is Ringu 2 worth seeing?

I have seen Ringu and the american remake The Ring and I loved them. Is this movie worth watching? It seems from what I've read like it's good but not as good as Ringu.

As a ringu-fan I would say it is worth seeing, although it isn't as good as Ringu 1.

You get to know a lot more about Mai (Ryuji's mistress), who gradually takes over as the main character, instead of Reiko. Yoichi is also developed further as a character, along with the development of his supernatural powers.

The down sides are that Mai faces many of the same questions and dilemmas as Ryuji and Reiko did in the first Ringu, making Ringu 2 somewhat repetitive at some points.

An interesting sideplot, with Okazaki, the journalist from Ringu 1, is also introduced.

SPOILERS

Inevitably Mai and Yoichi is drawn into the same paths as Reiko and Ryuji, including the Ryokan (inn) at the small island, which Reiko and Ryuji visited. There Mai and Yoichi has to face Sadako, both to get answers and to save Yoichi.

All in all I think it is worth seeing, though.

I always call it a film of 'moments'. It bears VERY little relation to the suzuki koji books, and suffers for it but has lots of classic hideo nakata scares.
The more i watch this film the less i like it, the main plot seems to get a little bogged down in some quite poor 'science' and the ending is... not great. Don't let me put you off though, i've seen this film loads of times and i wouldn't have kept rewatching it if it didn't have a lot to offer. The okazaki subplot is great and leads to what was, for me, the biggest scare(/creepy moment) in the film. The moment that takes place in the inn also provides an excellent moment as does the part with masami (tomoko's friend/becca in the remake) in the mental hospital (Which the Remake plundered heavily).
I really hope you enjoy the film, as negative as my comments may sound i really love the whole Ring phenomenon and Ring2 is no exception. If you do enjoy it then i suggest you go straight on to Ring0. It's not directed by Nakata and lacks the atmosphere that you know and, no doubt, love but still has a lot to offer in terms of sadako's backstory.

Thank you! It seems like it's worth watching after all, and I'll do that!

I have seen the film now, and I agree with you. The first film was much better, but I'm glad that I watched it anyway.
