why was the show cancelled after only 8 episodes?????????????? we only got about 4 episodes when they aired here in australia.
shareAll eps aired in Australia. The first 4 were at a decent time, and then they went to late night.
I have all 8 eps on video and have converted them to DVD.
The show was only meant to be a summer filler. Sort of a spin off from Dawson's Creek, with Will having been Pacey's friend and moved away to Rawley.
They may have talked about it being a permanent show, but I think it was a nice little 8 part series. Snap shot of one summer.
This is what the intention was with Grey's Anatomy originally, hence why season 1 is only 9 eps in length. It was only meant to be a summer filler, but ended up becoming a hit, and then got moved into the regualar schedule.

I saw this as a young teen in summer 2000 and had to download low quality copies through a bit torrent to see it again. To say it was a spin off of Dawson's Creek is a bit of a stretch, since the character Will was only put into that show as a loose connection to give credit to Young Americans. It was low ratings that were the show's demise unfortunately, if not for that it would have continued into the fall. Being older now I can see the problems with the show, but I would still want to see what would happen in a second season.
