I know it's a Dawson's Creek spin-off, but what's the relation? Is the story similar or anything?
And were the ratings so poor that they canceled it after just 8 episodes?
There was a crossover character: Will Krudski. He was a childhood friend of Pacey's who came to visit the gang in Season 3, if I remember correctly. He was there for 3 episodes and he left because he was granted a scholarship at a boys' academy in New Rawley, which is where Young Americans was set. The latter show picked up as Will was starting school there.
I'm not entirely sure, but I think the series was originally intended as a summer series only, to fill Dawson's timeslot and they had an option to continue it if the ratings were strong. The ratings weren't, so they left it at 8 episodes as was originally planned.
I used to watch Dawson's Creek before the entire "Joey" drama blew out of proportion. I went back to watch the episode I missed just to see Will Krudski in ONE episode, lol.
