Time or distance works differently in the F&F universe. Exactly the same thing happens at the end:-

Dom says the railroad crossing is exactly a quarter of a mile away and he's going for it on green. Lights turn green on 40 seconds, they reach the crossing at 2:13 on the clip. One minute and 33 seconds later!

Ten seconds can expand to whatever time is required for the scene!

Thanks for the additional information. I never watched it that far.

I guess that's really the only way to add drama or suspense to a 1/4 mile race. Stretch time.
