anyone watching this year?

for the first time in 20 years, I am not too excited to watch this, just please let me know if its woke or not.

11 minorities, 18 people, ug...

and 3 LGBTQwhatevers

reply

Only three? Seemed like more than that.

reply

I think so, Ricard mentioned his partner is a pregnant transmale.

both of the lesbians were pretty cool and not in your face about it.

reply

Even my sister who doesn't follow this show was like "they really checked all the boxes this year, didn't they".

Jeff threw down the woke gauntlet pretty hard with his ridiculous "is it okay to say 'guys'?" speech. Then the players didn't take the cues and were clearly talked to by the producers so they had to bring it up all over again. What a mess.

It doesn't feel like the show at all anymore. And then whatever that convoluted mess was with the twist right in the first episode. We haven't even gotten to know these people yet. And Jeff trying to spin the sped up game format like it's cool and edgy and not dumb as hell.

I'm watching, but for all the wrong reasons.

The "guys" thing was laughably woke, and I also felt they were primed by the producers to change their mind about being fine with the term "guys". My wife and I have watched it together for 17 years, but it's more a habit to watch than any desire on my part.

reply

one gay dude told Jeff that he was offended hearing "COME ON IN, GUYS !!"

cause he didn't consider himself a guy. let that sink in for a moment.
anyway after 40 seasons the host was like "I apologize.. i will now yell out "COME ON IN !!"

lmao

reply

Wow. The world has gone nuts.

reply

I felt so sad when I saw one person, a loud minority if you will, call out to Jeff and said he changed his mind, and then Jeff and production completely catered to that one person purely for virtue signaling across all media and social media platforms. It was insane.

There is nothing offensive about "come on in guys" and it is a staple in Jeffisms throughout the decades, as annoying as some of those Jeffisms are, to complain about on the actual show, or even bring it up, is so ridiculous, obviously a production stunt for sure.

reply

Now that you mention it, the way it was executed was almost perfect satire. Do you think the Survivor production team is actually trolling the world?

reply

It really is ridiculous.

There has never been a time in modern history where our society has been more progressive as it is right this very minute, yet you would think that the amount of 'reeing' and 'fighting for our rights' coming from the various social media harpies that we were living in the 50's.

There were trickles of it in the early 2000's, but I noticed a huge uptick around 2010-2012 coinciding with Obama's 2nd term and the rise of social media, and then it just skyrocketed when Trump became president.

reply

I'll give it a shot, they might get past the woke stuff.

Eh, pretty dull. Dumb players. Obnoxious players. Stupid advantages. There's not one person I can root for.

reply

This season is almost unwatchable. And it's nothing to do with wokery. These complicated advantages and twists, you need a conspiracy theorist workboard just to make sense of them. I watch Survivor for casual entertainment. This is ridiculous. You know what it's like? It's like those new overly-complicated strategy games that are all the rage now. This card does this, unless they have that card, but if you have this card, something happens to that card but that card does this thing and you all have to sit there for 5 minutes to figure out what the hell just happened. Fun!

reply

You're spot on, Tandy. Last week three of them were reading this advantage sheet and it said you get A if everyone gets A and if someone gets B then C will happen, but if D happens C will happen only if they also picked B.

What happened to one idol hidden in the jungle?

I still love watching this but between trying to mix it up every season with new stuff (extinction island was dumb - as was that temple with Rob and Sandra) and now they are really, as someone said, checking the boxes instead of getting a lot of conflicting personalities, they are trying to do too much and it ruins the strategy the game should be focused on.

reply

I hope it gets better because right now I can't recall a more boring season or people I really don't like or care to root for. Bring back fun and interesting people and stop caring so much about being inclusive.

reply

Dull contestant, same old boring challenges, leads to boring tribal council and boring season. Some of the contestants are so dumb that they aren't smart enough that they have to keep the strong ones until the merge and then you can go after them because if you continually get rid of your strong players, then you are left with junk players who can't win challenges and you just keep having to go to tribal council. This season is a prime example of that and now one tribe is down to 2 players because they keep terrible players.

reply

I really can't stand the two left and from the previews it looks like they might be in for a surprise next week - instead of a merge, which they expect, I think there are going to be two tribes and the gruesome twosome will be split up
