Nods to the original comics

I thought it would be fun to list some of the bits from the show that seemed like homages to the comics! Post the ones you noticed, too!

-Kitty sleeps with a stuffed animal dragon. In the comics, she had a pet dragon named Lockheed.

-In Dark Horizon, Kitty and Colossus team up. Kitty calls him a big softy, and they form a mini-duo during the battle at the end. Kitty and Colossus were one of the long-running X-men couples in the comics, but for obvious age differences, it was too weird for that to be included in this series.

-Rogue and Gambit are also one of the most memorable couples from X-Men, and the later episodes include a bunch of small moments where the two share lots of romantic chemistry. She even kisses him at one point, although she is under the control of Mesmero. I really feel that, if the show had continued, there would have been more between these two.

Bumping...

-Kurt's girlfriend, Amanda, is probably a reference to Kurt's girlfriend in the comics, Amanda Sefton. However, the two girls really only share a name in common... Amanda in the comics was actually a witch, and she was also Kurt's foster sister.

-In Spyke's episode from the last season, there's a small scene that follows Cannonball and Magma as they walk home together. In the comics, Cannonball had a brief crush on Magma -- it seems they're sort of close in X:ME, too.

-In Under Lock and Key, Bobby gets to be part of the mission because he sneaks onto the Blackbird. The reason this secondary character is promoted to a more important position in the episode? With Angel's return, the original X-Men from the comics are all together: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, and Iceman. I feel like it was a nod because there is a shot of the original five walking toward battle and Bobby says, "Yeah, we're definitely the cool team."

Why would a banana grab another banana? Those are the kind of questions I don't want to answer.

Seeing all five together was a true nod to the original lineup...X-Men: Evolution really respected its source material unlike Wolverine and the X-Men.
