On the Waterfront?

Doesn't the main theme of this movie sound kinda like this theme from Leonard Bernstein's musical score?

I think the main melody is very similar to The Spanish Prisoner's, another David Mamet movie.

Is there any place I can listen to an audio clip from that movie?

I'm not sure. My suggestion would be to just rent the two movies and compare the music. They're both pretty good, so you won't be wasting your money.

There's a similarity certainly, emphasized by both themes being played on the French horn. But they're not quite the same if you listen closely, and they develop in a different way. An interesting observation. I wonder if Theodore Shapiro knew Bernstein's music ? Don't know where you can hear they music for Heist except on the DVD or video.
