The Korean War: No Gun Ri massacre

I'm compiling a paper for a senior history project on the alleged massacre of South Korean civilians by the US military at the village of No Gun Ri during the Korean War. Anyone have any personal insight that might help?

You really should ask your question on the boards for Tae Guk Gi - there are tons of Korean War know-it-alls there.

I don't have personal insight on this; it was before my time. But I do know this:

The No Gun Ri massacre is not to much "alleged" as is is well-documented and pretty much indisputable. There are a number of survivors who have petitioned the US government for an apology, only to be stonewalled and met with denials.

It's only one of a number of civilian massacres that occurred during the Korean war though, due to the impossibility of telling North and South Koreans apart, and the US army was paranoid of enemy infiltration. North Koreans most likely did infiltrate the South. but that's hard to stop once they're in.

Anyway, if you're doing a paper, you can't really cite IMDb posts, and I'm sure I'm not saying anything you wouldn't come across in some research.

I read "The Bridge at No Gun Ri" last year (it's joint written by a couple of Koreans and someone else) and while it's not a great book, it is well-researched and has a lot you could probably use.

agreed. this incident (tragedy) is no more alleged than men landing on the moon. it's just been swept under the rug for so long....
