not sure about this film

I've still yet to make my mind up about this film.
I want to love it it and thought I would judging from all the rave reviews on here but I still dont feel it after 2 viewings. (btw I loved Oldboy, and mr vengeance also loved memories of murder)

I understand the premise about kindred spirits divided by politics but as a film the confusing parts made it difficult to enjoy. Ive read on here how it wasnt a Chan-Wook Park film - he was just just drafted in to direct a finished story. In my mind the confusion makes my brain try to anylize too much bypassing the emotional side.

The parts that succeeded for me was when the four friends were listening to that melancholy song on pvt.jeungs birthday and also the picture taken at the very end showing all four. This was probably down to the music which can make a film 1000x more effective (as shown in Park's other films)

For me too much emphasis was placed on the 'who dunnit' aspect. We find out early on that it was the south koreans which shot the north koreans but the only revelations were finding out which south korean shot which north korean- which in the end didnt really matter and so we did not care who dunnit.

I will probably give this another veiwing though (3rd time lucky) After I watch A tale of two sisters again ( need to figure that one out aswell)
But i'll definatly be buying Lady Vengeance when its released.
