5 Phrases worth the ticket

Sometimes, when you are at a theater and you watch a movie, there are several phrases, so great and touching phrases, that are, by themselves, worth the ticket. My top 5 list is:

-Adaptation.: "You are what you love, not what loves you"
-Vanilla Sky: "The little things, there's nothing bigger, is there?"
-Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: "Why do I fall in love with every woman I see who shows me the least bit of attention?"
-Closer:"Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off.. but it's better if you do"
And, well, of course..
-American Beauty: "Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in."

So, which are yours?

Be very carefull before calling films low-budget. Just because D.S.O.H.I.L.T.L.T.B. is in black and white and was shot before you were born IT IS NOT A LOW BUDGET FILM!

Good writing and good acting is what makes a good film, it is meaningless how much the film cost to make. Being called "low budget" is no insult.

My favorite movie Pulp Fiction cost $7million to make. Cheap even in 1994. But somehow it doesn't look cheap, and the writing and acting are terrific.

Let's keep it to Charlie Kaufman's movies only:-

ESOTSM

1) "First entry in two years. Where did those years go? If you are not careful, it gets away from you and then you're dead and who even remembers you were here"

2) "Are you crazy?" "It's been suggested"

3) "Are you a stalker?""Stalker Channing. No, that's not a color. Quit while I'm ahead?""I've been stalked before. I've been told by experts that I'm highly stalkable. I don't need that." "But I'm not a stalker. You talked to me, remember?" "Oldest trick in the stalker book"

4) "Drink up young man. It'll make the whole seduction part less repugnant"

5) "I tend to use that word (nice) a lot. It's a little nondescript"

6) "Constitutionally incapable of making eye contact with a girl I don't know"

7) "You are linke one of those locked room mysteries"

8) "You should read my journal. It's like blank"

BJM:

1) "My head is reeling. Is his head reeling?"

2) "Am I me? Is Malkovich Malkovich?"

3) "It's the feeling of being inside someone. Seeing what they see, feeling what they feel"

4) "I would know too what to do with you"

Adaptation:

1) "You are my twin. Does it ever occur to you that you represent me in the world. If you are fat, people think Charlie must be like that too"

2) "You and I share the same DNA. What could be more lonely than that?"

reply

What'd you say Bro?

-You and I share the same DNA. Is there anything more lonely than that?
-What'd you say Bro?

reply

"It's the feeling of being inside someone. Seeing what they see, feeling what they feel"

catherine keener's reply to that "yikes" made me laugh REALLY hard

Network: "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!"

Also, and I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, I thought there was a pretty sweet line in a movie I wrote with a friend of mine that we're about to direct:

Oneiros: "If I'm expected to lose then there's no shame in losing, is there?"

One True Thing

"It's so much easier to be happy, my love.
It's so much easier to choose to love the things that you have.
And you have so much, instead of always yearning for what you're missing or what it is that you're imagining you're missing. "

This is a REALLY great question. Mine would have to be:

The Breakfast Club- "When you get old, your heart dies."
Hedwig and the Angry Inch- "It was a sad story how we became lonely two-legged creatures."
While You Were Sleeping- "I may have saved your life on the tracks that day, but you really saved mine; you allowed me to be part of a family and I haven't had that in a really long time."
Freeway- "I'm pissed off and the whole world owes me!'
The Wizard of Oz- "Some people without brains do an awful lot of talking, don't they?"

reply

-Fight Club: "You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else."

-American Beauty: "This isn't life - this is just stuff."

-Dr Strangelove: "Fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face."

-Jurassic Park: "Clever girl."

-Men In Black: "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it."

Hooray.

Not the best lines ever written, but these are my favorite lines.

1. "You said you were gonna visit some friends" "They're somebody's friends" (Collateral)
2. "I'm the guy who does his job. You must be the other guy." (Departed)
3. "Silence Earthling! My name is Darth Vader. I am an extraterrestrial from the planet Vulcan!" (Back to the Future)
4. "Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho." (Die Hard)
5. "The man likes to play chess; let's get him some rocks." (Shawshank Redemption)

If you can't laugh at yourself, life's gonna seem a whole lot longer than you like.
