Susan disappointed by the flower

Why was Susan disappointed when she and John finally found the flower they had been searching for? She says “it’s just a flower” in a way like she’s being disappointed just for the sake of being disappointed.

for some reason she can't enjoy such things, though she wish she did. then she starts having more joy after she discovers that green powder, which connects to when charlie says to himself maybe his problem is chemical, that something about his brain's chemistry isn't right

Perhaps it was the powder that led to her having the over-the top reaction of trying to kill Charlie and Donald, when all she really had to do was tell them to keep their mouths shut.
