Well people have a number of perceptions besides nostalgia(which we all have been guilty of at one time or the other) alone for not liking the current trend of shows. Maybe people just don't like the format for current shows. Take Cartoon Network; some decent shows are there, but maybe they hate it when crap like Teen Titans GO!, Uncle Grandpa, The Amazing World of Gumball and Johnny Test is spammed so much that they long for the old format of Cartoonnetwork which had decent shows in such a plentiful row, like Power Puff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo Cow and Chicken, etc. Perhaps the griping is just based on that, or they long for a past plentifulness of good show. And I agree, maybe saying *ALL* cartoons suck is way overboard.
They also might miss Saturday morning, After School, and *slim chance* Before School cartoon blocks. I thought cartoons were more unique and great on those blocks before CN, Nick, and Disney monopolized on cartoons. I also liked Toon Disney before it became Jetex and Disney XD.
Others probably long for a certain formula to shows at one time. I admit it, I'm not into the new mainstream Disney cartoon shows like Phineas and Ferb, Gravity Falls and others. I missed cartoons were the formula created cartoons like Darkwing Duck, Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Talespin, Gummiebears, etc.
Another is that people long for new shows to have the same unique vibe as some of the other shows they've seen, recent or past. When watching The Galaxy Rangers, The Pirates of Dark Water, Exo Squad, etc; I wished they could create shows in the same spirit as them.
Also everyone is not going to like the same stuff you like at one time or the other. I'm sure there's stuff you like that I'm not interested in, and there maybe stuff I like that you're not interested in. And fortunately there are times where we do like the same things.
Those are just at the top of my head. I'm sure there are more reasons, but I can't think of all of them. The good thing is, people can watch all the classic stuff on YouTube to reminisce about the good old days, and most shows have headed to DVD.
