Season 5 picture quality

Why does Season 5 look cheaper than the previous seasons? The picture quality seems to be less cinematic and has kind of hazy look compared to the sharpness and more crisp lighting of the earlier seasons. Was this change a creative choice or did they switch cameras/editing software? It also is interesting to note that Season 5 of Alias aired the same year as Season 2 of Lost, and the latter had better picture quality even though both were made by the same production company.

35mm v digital, ABC gutted the budget

Yeah, digital cameras in the mid-2000s definitely weren’t up to par especially when watched on a modern LED 4K monitor. Perhaps Season 5 wouldn’t look that bad if it viewed on a classic CRT TV since anything on that would be roughly the same picture quality regardless of the filming source.
