Poor Genya... Spoilers

I felt for him more than any other character in the movie. While Chiyoko's story also touched me, I really was rooting for Genya. He was a bit like Cyrano de Bergerac; defending whom he loved, politely working in the shadows to help Chiyoko carry on her old flame. He was completly devoted to her, madly in love, but utterly doomed not to ever have this love returned. His roles fits him well during the movie; knight-errant, chivalrous and devoted, somewhat of a deus ex device, he always stood up for her, when nobody else did.

Yeah, I loved how involved he was during the fantasy bits. He seemed to chase Chiyoko as much as she chased her mysterious man.

Yeah I saw that way too. He was also doomed to that "eternal love" that she was. Chasing something they couldn't have thus doomed to that unrequitedness forever.

I liked him though, I thought it was interesting that he was in the movie at all. Gave another dimension.
