Harry just sits there with a dumb look on his face, and doesn't reply after the snake nearly attacks his classmate. He's outspoken, he definitely would have said "didn't you hear me tell it not to attack you" or anything that might explain the situation. He didn't know they couldn't understand him, so that question should have sounded crazy as hell. I always hated that part.
