Anyone else hate Kima by the end of the series?

It's very odd, actually. I loved her character at the beginning. Strong, likable and smart female cop dealing with lot's of men in the workplace, and a relationship with another woman at home. But as the seasons continued, I didn't see her progress or change. She just came off cold. Especially the last season. Ratting on McNulty and Lester, ignoring Bubbles in the hospital, acting indifferent and rude on more then one occasion. Was this purposely done, or could it be chalked up to many critics dissing the show's lack of strong female characters in general? Perhaps they could have tweaked her character with some more relish (and heart).

reply

Ratting on them was a dick move.

reply

She saved them from eventual prison by ratting on them. They were way to far deep int heir own mess at that point.

McNulty and Freamon jeopardised everything that Kima and her colleagues were working on. If it wasn't for Lester finding out about Levy's court mole and Pearlman blackmailing him with it, then he could have made half the investigations in Baltimore CID at that time useless and unprosecutable.

I understand some people don't like that she ratted them out, but they had the entire city thinking there was a serial killer preying on homeless people. The mayor making speeches, people pulled from legitimate police work for a made up killer, and Kima herself was working an actual murder that she was pulled from. Bunk tried to stop them but they would not listen. Wanting to get Marlo Stanfield made sense, but the way they did it did not.

There's also the point that Kima had to deal with that mother and father who not only had to deal with their son's death, but also deal with the thought that he suffered and was sexually molested prior to his death, which wasn't the case. That kind of emotional pain also had its effect on Kima's decision.

Don't hate her character, but I hate what she did. But that's what cops are supposed to do, ya know, stop people from breaking the law.

reply

She needed more lesbian sex scenes. I really don't remember her character beyond that. She was good.

I, too, would have liked to see more Kima lesbian scenes. There were enough of McNulty, so why not Kima?

reply

Because the show was lesbianist and dikophobic.

They had one small lesbian scene that was kinda sexy. I think it was season 3

Not cool with herc calling the sun on bunny.

No.

I think you essentially missed the point of her entire character arc. Nice job.

Didn't see her change? The job essentially turned her into McNulty. She started with a happy relationship and ended up destroying it by drinking and cheating. Then she grows up and goes to see her kid. This happens over the course of the entire show. This is progress. This is change.

Ratting on McNulty and Lester? Had to be done. She saved their asses by doing that. If they didn't hate her for that, I feel like you have little reason to.

Ignoring Bubbles in the hospital? What scene did you watch? Sure, she didn't go in, but that hardly means she ignored him. It was much deeper than that.

I think her character was very realistic and had an interesting story arc to her.

I didn't like Kima by the end of the series. They should've stuck with their original plan and had her die in the first season.
