It hurt the plot that I couldn't help but think of Derek Vinyard


In 25th Hour, Monty was supposed to be a weaker pretty boy who was not going to do well in prison. But I kept thinking of Edward Norton as the alpha-badass Derek Vinyard and it made it really hard to appreciate his pre-prison angst. It's not really the movie's fault but it made the plot much less effective.

Same here. The mirror scene, the frustration towards everyhthing, the regrets of "blowing it up", plus the emotional score reminded me vividly of American History X.
