Similar situation for Iranian soldiers!

When I watched the film I felt exactly as I did the night before I was going to serve compulsorily in the Iranian police force.
The law of conscription in Iran demands that men serve 2 years (!) in the military when they turn 18. There are few options to avoid it.

You get all your freedom taken away from you. You have to leave home, you don't see any women, you can't smoke (let alone drink), you are treated like a criminal, you are not even allowed to shave (if you are in the police force and not the army). It's exactly like a prison.

Sometimes people run away but they have to live like fugitives. You can't get a car licence, no bank account, no passport, no marriage, and there is always the fear of being "caught."
