I wondered why they added this bit between Hoffman and Pepper's character. Is he supposed to have started greying early or just dyes his hair another color?
It's minor I know but can't help wondering I guess because I like hair a lot. And I'm attracted to those with great hair too.
I didn't think much of it. I thought the scene was to convey / establish the friendship between the two characters; they were just having some friendly banter.
Another viable explanation is to establish how the guys were getting older, as Pepper was dying his hair to hide his gray. There was a scene, I remember, where he talks about how things will be different when Monty comes out of jail 7 years later (i.e. - "after tomorrow, that's it. It's over"). they will be nearly 40 at the time
