Figuring out 'Jasper'??

Just saw this movie on AMC. When McCaleb “confronts” Buddy/Jasper, having figured out the “No-one” connection, doesn’t McCaleb say something about, “The ‘Jasper’ part was harder to figure out...”, or something like that? What was there to “figure out” about the name “Jasper”?

And was there any significance to the sequence of nine numbers besides the lack of “1”?

Seems to me that "no one" would be the main point of the numbers--make it seem like some overly complicated, in-depth code when the answer is pretty simple.

Not sure about the Jasper part.

on wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasper

is a silica semi-precious - the sample they have pictured in the page is shaped like a body organ and RED in colour ( blood red ??) although there are green , gold and other colours

He lived next to Japser "Buddy" Noone for about two years.

He probably knew the Noone part before but he probably never knew that Buddy's real name was Jasper. He had always known him as Buddy.

It is a different experience after seeing it for the first time.

The first time I saw it, I was trying to figure out who the killer was the entire movie. Suspecting everyone. I LOVED the movie.

And then I bought it on DVD and watched it again and it has never been the same feeling knowing who it is everytime I watch it now. Lol- But it is still a GREAT movie. I still enjoy it everytime

ALL OF MY WORK HAS BEEN LEADING TO THIS

until one of the posters actually linked 'jasper' on wikipedia I thought it was just a joke.

I saw this movie about 6 years ago and thought it was average at best, saw it again tonight and actually liked it quite a bit, the story is well constructed, the dialogue is good, everything is solid. It's also has a very laid back feel to the movie which makes it easy to watch. Better than 6.3/10 thats for sure

Just saw this for the first time today. Not one Clint's better efforts as a director, maybe it's because the story is weak. I can't believe people had a hard time figuring out who the killer was. It's not like I'm a great sleuth, I've just seen a lot of movies and this one was very predictable. Jeff Daniels' part was too insignificant, so it had to be him. Also, you knew there was going to be twist at the end. There always is in these type of movies.

Plus, there are really only about 5 characters in the film!

"Rampart: Squad 51."

I didn't get it right away either, but apparently an older name for the mineral/stone jasper is bloodstone, for its deep red color. It's also a traditional March birthstone, but I can't remember if that plays into anything, if maybe McCaleb's birthday or his new heart came in March? I dunno.

The numbers were a misdirection: only the "no 1' was meaningful. He enjoyed the game of confusion and the fact that their computers couldn't crack it.

Jasper is a hard material. So probably "Jasper NoOne" is supposed to mean Hard to break code with out the number 1

When Terry is paying Buddy, he asks Buddy who he should make the check out to, Buddy says "Jasper Noone"; later when Terry brings the check to Buddy the check is made out to Buddy Noone. So Terry says "I had a little more trouble with the Jasper part" it means that he wrote the wrong name on the check.

That's how I took it.
