CLINT EASTWOOD IS A BAD DIRECTOR!

Clint Eastwood is a very good actor with an extremely appealing screen presence... His characters, including the one for Blood Work, almost always have a special quality that makes the audience care about his well being.

As a director, however, his movies always seem to have an amateurish quality, even though some tell very interesting stories. Blood Work is no exception... The fact that everyone in the audience figures out the "mystery" of the story within the first 1/3 of the film demonstrates a lack of mastery from the movie creator. In addition, the caricature-like character of Paul Rodriguez seems out of context in an otherwise serious drama; this character is simply not believable as an FBI high-ranking officer.

I saw Heartbreak Ridge in the 80's and thought it seemed like a B-movie, unintentionally silly. Almost 20 years later Eastwood's work has not gotten much better. I'll give him another chance with Mystic River (I have not seen it yet)but somehow feel I'll be disappointed again.

Clint is no Scorsese, Coppola, Tarantino or even Robert Redford!

Are you kidding? Please, see Mystic River and while you're at it see Unforgiven.

I thought he did really well with Unforgiven, A Perfect World, and Mystic River. This one wasn't bad but probably could've been a little better.

clint eastwood is a good director who does a great film every now and then. i actually prefer his westerns to the ones he did with don siegal and sergio leone(though i love them too) he does a lot of mediocre genre fare. i would actually compare him to john huston who was a studio director who did a lot of sturdy genre fare but a great film every now and then. great eastwood films:play misty for me, high plains drifter, bird, the outlaw josey wales, pale rider, unforgiven(one of the best films EVER) a perfect world, the bridges of madison county, and mystic river.

reply

teejay--I'm glad you compared him to Huston. I LOVED john Huston! He REFUSED to be pigeonholed. Eastwood does, too. He recently said that he doesn't want to repeat himself.

Man, the last time I posted on here was a long time ago. Since then he has gone on to do Million Dollar Baby and Flags of Our Fathers, both which were great. Now I'm hearing that Letters From Iwo Jima is spectacular as well. I think I'm going to have to say that Clint Eastwood is a great director and, like a fine wine, just keeps getting better with age (although I still think Unforgiven is his best).

I had forgotten about The Outlaw Josey Wales, that was probably the first great movie he directed.

Clint a bad director??? what have you been smoking? Some of the greatest films ever made have been a result of Eastwood`s skill behind the camera. Unforgiven, the best "modern" western ever made shows us the quality of a true great. Also, he directed several of The Dirty Harry films with real class and they came out as genuine classics. Eastwood is the greatest man ever and a true legend. GO AND SEE EASTWOOD AND BE ENTERTAINED

It's very trendy these days for directors to be wasteful. "I'm very professional, so I demand 40 takes of each scene. Sure, I go over-budget and over schedule, but I'm an artist." Clint is NOT one of those. I've read that many of his films come in under budget and ahead of schedule. Interviewees say that he only does 1 or 2 takes of a scene. I wish I could be as good at life as Eastwood is at films.

reply

Simple. Clint work with crew who know what he wants. He also communicated what he wanted from his actor, and get the shot he needs quickly. That's why his film rarely loose money.

sudden impact was one of the best dirty harry movies anyways

reply

Sorry kid. Clint only directed one Dirty Harry movie...SUDDEN IMPACT. And although I enjoy the Dirty HArry movies, with the exception of the original, I would hardly consider them classics.

You obviously have bad taste and no idea what you are talking about.
