Sean Connery quit Hollywood after 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.' What went wrong?

How did "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" go from would-be blockbuster to cautionary tale — and was it really that bad?

I saw TLOEG in the cinema and thought it was dreadful.

I thought it was superior to today's marvel films - decent character development, coherent plot - cheesy, but not bad overall. SFX were kept in check.

Today's marvel films are all about SFX, while the plots are dismal at best.

However, I do not doubt that if this film had been turned into a series of sequels, it would have ended up being the same as today's marvel films. Event he marvel films usually started off with smaller budgets, better plots and less sfx - success caused their budgets to explode and put nearly everything into sfx lol

As for Sean Connery - blaming this film for him turning down other roles, including one for steven spielberg - I doubt it. Sean was already 73 years old - his temper was never really good - and it was getting worse - he was fed up, had more than enough money - no shame in quitting the corrupt hollywood. Clint Eastwood is still making films in his 90's and it ain't looking great. Had he quit in his early 70's like Connery - he'd have stopped right after the million dollar baby - ending on the high note. Instead he continued on and his last 5 films are .... not that great @@
