Emily Procter

Is, to me, a prime example of how a pretty model with a modicum of screen presence and apparently no visible acting talent can thrive in an on-screen career in the modern era -- playing Calleigh Duquesne for ten years through all 232 episodes of this dramatically undemanding series, and evidently still in demand for "other roles". Can anyone shed any light on her performances outside this series? Her phenomenon is a real puzzler to me -- as is much else in modern pop culture, admittedly -- so I would welcome other perspectives.

Well, when she was in THE WEST WING, I thought she was pretty good. She was introduced as a young conservative Republican lawyer, Ainsley Hayes, who sparred with (and b*tchslapped) President Bartlett's Deputy Communications Director, Sam Seaborn (Rob Lowe) on a DC political show. She was hired as an Associate White House Counsel, despite her opposing political views. Her character disappeared (without explanation) at the time Procter was cast in CSI:Miami. However, the character was liked by many fans, so that Emily Procter reprised the role in the last season, as the likely new Chief White House Counsel for incoming President-Elect Matthew Santos (Jimmy Smits).
Of course, the early seasons of the West Wing, written by Sorkin, were generally speaking the stronger, better developed episodes, so it may have showed Procter at her best - good writing helps even serviceable actors look better.
I know she's done some other stuff (apparently including topless scenes) but I haven't seen any of it.
I do think it's a shame she felt the need to do some strange cosmetic surgery or something in the latter seasons of CSI:Miami, as it made her face look strange and plastic.

Hmmm... interesting. So she seems quite well established with the viewing public. As I say, CSI Miami is the only thing I've noticed her in -- could have seen her in other things but never made an impression. And the only thing I did notice about her, apart from a fairly standard prettiness, was how little impression she was making -- as if she just couldn't hack it, or maybe she was told by the director, Play a scientist, you know without any feelings, expression, and very boring... But then, it's a complete puzzle to me what many celebrities get paid for. Here, come to work every day and stand in front of this camera...

She's adequate as a one-time guest star, gets bogged down in recurring roles and probably (hopefully) will never get a starring role.

What makes you think she is "in demand"? Her acting, as I have seen, is pretty much abysmal in everything she's done. Most of her "performances" you'll never find, as the vehicles are trash. Unless the director of CSI: Miami was going for dull, wooden, lifeless and rude I haven't seen any acting ability. She pretty much puts on a vacant look and talks in a weird, slurred dialect in all her roles.

I just hope, for her sake, she's not playing herself.
