Vercetti's Style (a strange question)

Recently, after remembering days spent with Vice City, I got interested with Vercetti's street clothes style. He wears ordinary Havaian short and jeans, golden watch and chain...and white shoes. But the shoes don't seem that usual...
I read somewhere, that Tommy Vercetti (while in his "usual", street clothes with a Havaian shirt) wears Adidas Superstars (now part of the Originals collection, but in 1986 they were possibly just typical shoes of the time). While I don't remember, that this fact was mentioned anywhere, on one of Tommy's frontal pictures I saw, that his shoes really look like Superstars. Of course, there are no logos, and in the game itself they seem to be simply unspecified white sneackers (and for me they seem to have more modern design).
So, after getting this info, I wondered, if this is true? Does anybody know?
