Would you recommend to buy the PS2 version now?

I mean, it's 2008 and the game goes back to 2002. Does it still hold its grounds? Especially in relation to graphics (I know that the soundtrack cannot disappoint even the most demanding players) and controlling. Is Dual Shock doing its job well enough (especially when the character is in a car)?

The only GTA game I ever played was a PC version of "GTA3" and it was damn long ago.

Thanks for recommendations!

Yes, I've collected money already. So, today I'm gonna get it and take a "RIP peaceful" vacation in "Miami". I'll be off IMDb for some time perhaps. Hope, Vercetti is worth the time. I'll return here with thanks or with a chainsaw...

By the way, I saw "GTA4" playing in my local videostore (on a big-screen Samsung LCD) and it did not impress me much. On my CRT and via my PS2 everything looks so realistic and smooth, while on LCD the image is, well, pixelized.

Regards and hang out here because I shall be back,
Andrei

If you tried to play Vice City on a PS3 it's wouldn't look as good as if you were to play it on the PS2. The images are distorted and really pixelized.

are you really sure about that though?...reason I ask this is because I'm planning on getting a PS3 and want to still be able to play my PS2 games on it (including the gta games) with no trouble....what I heard is that the latest PS3 firmware updates solved all the problems it had with playing PS2 games...and I also heard the loading speeds are much better when playin a PS2 game on a PS3 console than actually playing it on a PS2 console.

I'm only describing the problems I myself have encountered. I know others have had the same exact problems. If Sony worked it out, and managed to correct all the problems, then that's great. But I still suggest hanging on to your old systems. I still have my very first Playstation. I prefer to use that when indulging in some of my old Final Fantasy games. If you were to try to play FF7 or FF8 on the PS3 the graphics would look terrible. With some PS2 games it's the same thing. Take for example Final Fantasy X. Those graphics were horrible when played on the PS3. You can find videos, available on YouTube, that go further into detail. I really hope this helps. I don't wish to discourage anyone from purchasing the PS3. It's one of THE BEST gaming systems on the market right now. And the titles available are awesome too.
LOL! Below is a link for 1 video I found about this on YouTube.

Yeah, i know they USED to look horrible on the PS3..but if u notice in the youtube video u just posted, that the video was posted in december of '06, and it states on the right side of the page in the video description that the problem was fixed in the firmware 1.50 update...and the latest firmware out as of right now is 2.42..so this problem seemed to have been fixed for a while now...with the PS1 games im not really sure though..those games are at lower resolutions than even PS2 games so there might be more trouble with those, i dont know...but regardless, i always keep all my old systems..i still have nintendo and super nintendo in my closet somewhere
