Berserk live action movie casting, who would you pick?

If they wanted to make one, who would you choose to play the main characters?

"Now the story of a wealthy family..."

Casca: Jessica Alba. Nice skin tone, appropriate for that role.

Guts: Clive Owen would have been good when younger

Other options : Dominic West and Manu Bennett(keep in mind they all have to beef up)

Casca: I think Eliza Dushku can do it, but she'd have to put in the performance of a lifetime. Halle Berry looks perfect for this role, physically, but she NEVER takes roles like this seriously (halfass performances on the x-men films shows you this) so no.
Other option: Kandyse McClure, Tebrett Bethel

Griffith, the toughest to cast: Man, would a young anorexic jude law or michael sheen be perfect for this role. but since we can't have that, and i really don't wanna say the twilight guy, i gotta go with maybe luke goss, if made up to look more feminine
Other options: Orlando Bloom, though a bit older, woulda looked fine like the lord of the rings elf getup, but maybe a little old

Jason Isaacs is the most obvious Gambino in the World

Pippin is obviously jay lagai'a

Corkus: David Oaks

Judeau: Jensen Ackles (I hadda do it!)

Rickert: Luke Benward i guess. really for these just get unknowns

HOWEVER Ian McShane should be the king, as he can do good and not just villain
overcast the *beep* out of the queen of midland and get nicole kidman (lol, this is an expensive cast, but its a dream right?)

Julius: Rufus Sewell. Good actor, looks like he could be mcshane's younger brother.

I'm wondering, maybe it would work to cast a woman for Griffith. Like Cate Blanchett in that Bob Dylan biography - I think that might really give Griffith that otherworldly touch that he needs.

reply

Interesting idea for sure. Not against it

Then I guess they will dub the voice, which could work. Just build him out of multiple actors. And for Guts, think Chris Hemmsworth? He's a pretty huge guy, and can act. I suggested Jason Momoa before, but I think that's a bad idea.

Watch these movies!!:
American History X, Zombieland, Kick Ass, anything Hayao Miyazaki

Guts: Michael Fassbender

Griffith: I would say Heath Ledger if he was still around

" Look, there's two women fuc*ing a polar bear!" - Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas 1998

Tom Hardy - Guts
Matthew Goode - Griffith

reply

yes matthew goode would be perfect for griffith and hardy or fassbender for guts

however a live action of this would never work you would lose all the nuance of the story and the character development in a two hour period plus you would need independent funding because any hollywood backed tudio would make the worst film adaptation of this and Id hate to see that

I'm not sure who I would cast but I would definetly make it as a TV show on HBO or Showtime. In either event how do you get past the filming of the eclispe. That makes The Red Wedding look like a Smurf movie. Also if you go on with the story from the Manga i'm sure the church would have something to say about the Conviction arc.I would cast unknowns and not go with anybody famous.

I agree with the Tom Hardy casting. If not him Henry Cavil
Benedict Cumberbatch would make a great Griffith because of his posh style.

reply

This would be an awesome live action TV series on HBO. I doubt it would be made ever until we can break the American censorship barrier.

Madness as you know is like gravity all it takes is a little push-The Joker

If you see my LONG post youll see that I TOTALLY agree with you with Henry Cavill(for al lthe reasons I posted)
Hed be a great choice

reply

Vin Diesel as Guts.

Kerry Washington as Casca

Griffith.... Very hard to choose... Sam Claflin maybe?

A few years back this same very question keeps popping up and amongst the Berserk Fans , its been a topic that have both intrigued us and dissapointed us as far as cast goes.

For me... IMHO before we discuss actors we have to talk about budget.

For someone who thoroughly enjoyed Berserk when I first saw it in 1998 I believed that the 26 episode series was quite Epic.. It had everything a Feature length film needed: Battles, romance, Unrequieted love, supernatural forces, Betrayal, political intrigue ... basically Berserk Had it all!!!

SO, for me the first thing that Berserk would need would be a BUDGET along the *SAME* lines as the First Lord of the Rings Trilogy.. period

I dont think you can summarize all 26 episodes in a 2 hour movie.

*3* 2.5 hour movies - Yes.
That way you can grow to love the characters and development (If You havent watched the Anime)

2. Actors. This is a tricky one and Im going to limit this post to just 1... Gatsu or "GUTS". So many people have posted who they would like to see as Guts and Its a very difficult decision. Ive seen it Range from Bruce Campell(In his younger days.. I disagree because Ive never been a fan of those movies (please dont crucify me)) to Vin Diesel(a very bad choice even though I like Vin D.)

I think for this to work you might need some fresh faces to portray them.
When I first responded to this post *years* ago.. My own personal opinion was that Guy who played Colossus in the first X-Men Movie
(He was relatively unknown and new and had the body type and I thought hed be a good Guts)

Then I also thought about Dominic Purcell (the main Vampire in the Last Blade 3 movie) I think hed be even better...I remember him from the Made for TV series JOHN DOE - that got cancelled
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0700712/?ref_=tt_cl_t3

But since it been a few years since we talked/argued/pondered the Guts Character I think Ive decided that The ACTOR Henry Cavill (who played SUPERMAN in MAN OF STEEL)
Would be the best choice.

Why him you ask? Im coming from a strictly ANIME logic now. When you watch anime (those of us who prefer the original Japanese voices) notice .. the screams..
The Japanese actors have a way of showing this fear in the screams that hasnt really translated when in American Dubs to me.. Its rare when Americans have that(magic touch)

If you have all seen the "MAN OF STEEL" please notice All the times where Kal-El Screams.
1. The beginning with the tanker that exploded
2.The scream at the end after Killing Zod
(in fact EVERY time) Henry Cavill Screamed... I thought about Guts being tortured by those demons
He has that Anime -scream-touch

So in short... HENRY CAVILL would be an AWESOME GUTS!!
Opinions?
