About the ending... (spoilers)

Who thought it was a good idea to invest so much time in character development and then literally rape and kill all those characters in a single episode without much explanation or such...

I know that in the manga Caska and Guts get somehow rescued by some kind of knight, but if you watch just the anime, it's *beep* depressing how these characters get destroyed by a big Deus Ex Machina at the end.

I should've stopped watching at EP 19, that would be a good ending for the anime.

Thats just it....it dosen't end there. The story continues through the Manga. If you read books 1-3 of the Manga(or the first episode of the anime) you find out the story is part of Guts past and then after you see the eclipse it pretty much goes back to the present. Do yourself a favor read the Manga.

The idea of investing that much character development was so when they raped and killed all the characters it would have a big impact. Like the other user said it's not the actual ending of Berserk, just the anime's. I'm not sure if they planned a second season or if they wanted to end it there hoping people would pick up the managa to see what happens next.
