One thing I don't get is that if EMPs work

Then how come the nukes didn't work against the machines in SR II?
Plot hole?

-You just can't go around killing people!
-Why?

reply

EMP is an electromagnetic pulse that disrupts the electrical signals that the machines use. A nuke unleashes a massive ammount of energy, which destroys all the machines it connects with. However the machines are unaffected by the massive amounts of radiation that can kill humans who are miles away from ground zero.

Strictly a question: I thought that when a nuke is dropped, upon explosion a huge emp is unleashed as well.

A nuclear explosion will produce an EMP effect, but it's believed that the range and intensity will vary according to the weapon's yield and how it is used. A nuclear deviced detonated high in the atmosphere will result in a more extensive effect unlike the ground bursts that would be used to destroy area targets like the Machine ground forces. Electronics can be shielded or hardened against an EMP effect, however (this technology is available and used today) so it would be safe to assume that dedicated warrior Machines produced by 01 were constructed to survive the kinds of EMP produced by the humans' nuclear arsenals. The EMP weapons used by Zion are therefore different in the way the effect is produced (no nuclear exploding device) and strength. Second Renaissance II though does show some kind of directed energy weapon being used by the humans to destroy a wave of Machines. Could this have been an early version of the technology Zion later employed?

Ironically, those 'laser' or lighting-esque weapons are also the arsenal of the machines themselves.

I assume that when 01 was a fledgling economy, a lot of the technology that they introduced to the human markets were later used to develop weapons by both sides.

So the EMP weapons used by the Zionists in the films were actually developed by the machines.

Contrary to popular belief, it is impossible to overdose on marijuana... though many have tried.

The nuclear bombardment would of been enough to vaporize the entire city of Zero One. The EMP generated by each nuclear blast would of been enough to destroy all of the machines as well.

Some people argue that the machines were able to survive in bunkers below 01.
If that was the case, then why didn't the UN send soldiers into the ruins to locate and destroy all survivors?

It would of been a simple mop up operation. And Zero One would not have had enough time to rebuild it's city and continue it's war effort.

You can't just send in troops onto the ground zero of where you've just detonated a few dozen nuclear weapons.
