Second Renaissance Part 2 Question

If all the machines were solar powered, why did Dark Storm have absolutely no effect? In Second Renaissance Part 2, after the nukes (which also give off EMPs)are dropped and after operation Dark Storm, the machines just come back stronger and better than ever, wiping out the human armies. It's ridiculous, how could destroying their power source have no benefit whatsoever? Wouldn't the machines numbers have been decimated, and wouldn't the "survivors" at least need time to rebuild their armies/city? The humans should've been able to wipe out the machines with ease, instead it seems like they're trying to cover up a plot hole by making all human offense ineffective.

For the same reason the machines didn't just grow nonsentient cattle as their primary power source, or just lobotomize all the humans at birth. If they did that, there wouldn't be a Matrix, and there wouldn't be a profitable movie franchise surrounding it.

That's the only kind of answer I expected. Thanks anyway.

They could have used nuclear energy to reenergize themselves and Morpheus did mention they used this in combination with the human power plants... but then you wonder why they didn't simply rely on nuclear energy alone to supply their needs after the humans in the Matrix started becoming troublesopme, so I guess the previous explanation stands.

Machines are extremely knowledgeable (I won't say intelligent, because machines don't have an intellect). Of course they would find away around such a problem. Alternative sources of power would be available; the sun was probably as much of a power source to them as it is to us, and the humans were too stupid too realize that.

What are you talking about? Of course they have intellect. Artificial INTELLIGENCE - the ability to learn and apply knowledge. If they didn't have the ability to learn they wouldn't be able to grow as a race, which they certainly did. They would have no more knowledge than the robot that created them. And they wouldn't be able to apply any knowledge they had to come up with the idea of harvesting energy from humans.

I'm sure, and I will not base this as Factual. They had batteries (and not talking about energizers) where they stored energy, like the Architect was telling Neo if he chose the wrong door whole crops would be lost, but they had calculated an acceptable level of lost. (But in a lot more complicated words.) Meaning even if they lost their power source they obviously had a back plan or generator. As for the Dark Storm I’m sure the machine world had already calculated that possibility and prepared for it just the same. Also with that the machine world had probably predicted if the Humans went to that level they would take the gloves off and proceed with the next phase and that would be the Matrix.

1. I'm sure the humans had a plan to bring back the sun once the machines were destroyed.

2. "The dead are liquifide and fed intraveinouesly to the living." That's what humans are fed on. Each other.

I don't quite agree with the first one, Human arrogance usually doesn't think that far ahead, they probably figured that it wasn't their problem to fix, let someone else figure that one out, plus you do have to realize that if a human can fix the problem the machines would be easily be able to too.

I know your post was over a year ago but I want to answer anyway. The machines could've found an alternative energy source while building their own city and civilization the humans might not have known about.

reply

I don't think so...the machines don't really come up with new ideas, just advances in old ones. I think that's the difference between humans and machines, in our creativity. So they wouldn't come up with an alternative energy source, they would just perfect the energy source they already have...i.e. humans.

At the time of Dark Storm the machines hadn't started using humans for energy though, it was only after the war they started their experiments and research.

reply

true, but it wasn't like using humans for energy is really that new of an idea. Slaves were basically used for the energy they created and the work they did. Work equals energy. So the machines used human energy to power fusion. They perfected the idea of using humans for energy. Instead of having humans push around a wheel to create energy, they just take our basic internal energy instead of having it wasted through heat and muscle building.
