what type of show is this?

i'm trying to decide what show to start next on netflix and this is one of the two i was trying to decide between. all the plot synopsises saying things like " a group of lesbians and their love life" etc. thats not really a good description of the feel of the show imo. is this basically sex and the city, but with lesbians? is it more soap opera?

I never watched Sex and the City so I can't make the comparison. I started watching The L Word on Netflix too and I would describe it as a show centered around the experiences of a group of friends who happen to be lesbians. The show is usually a mixture of serious and funny, but I consider it a drama more than a comedy.

I'm on Season 4 right now and I'm enjoying it. I am IN LOVE with Max.

This is definitely much darker than Sex and the City. I would say drama with minor funny moments. Lots of nudity. I watched this after Orange is the New Black. Took about a month for me to watch all 6 seasons.

It's definitely a drama. I wouldn't say it compares to Sex and City, maybe on a very general level of "group of very close friends who live in a big city, with a focus on relationships".

It's very much a drama I think. And very... real situations and plotlines. I'm used to shows like Nip/Tuck, Dexter, Breaking Bad, etc., and so forth, with really over the top circumstances and crazy plots and this show is pretty real. Nothing ridiculous, just relationships, love lives, careers, etc.,

I'd say the stand out aspect of the show is the friendship between characters. It's not a common basis for a show I think.
