Not hall of fame with 2997?

Sure 3000 sounds better but if you don't get into Cooper's Town with 2997 three more hits won't make a difference.

reply

true but he was a jerk to the media and the reporters, and guess who votes guys into the hall of fame? reporters.

the fact that 3 of his 3000 hits were taken from him gave reporters an excuse to keep him from the HOF, which honestly is quite possible. rafael palmeiro has hall of fame numbers but i'd honestly be very surprised if he gets in because of the controversy surrounding his career. different situations, but just saying that numbers don't always ensure a spot in the HOF

reply

i think if you have 2997 hits you should not get in, seeing how lazy you are to not get 3 more hits. Only excuse is if you die or something.

reply

you're joking right?

reply

never been more serious in my life =|

reply

2997 hits is a great achievement. players have gotten in with less then 2500, and they are still damn good ballplayers

reply

Every player who has hit over 2,800 has gotten in...not by the writers, but voted in.

reply

im just saying....if your that close to getting 3000 hits why stop at 2997.... Its kinda like running a 10 k race and giveing up at the last 3 meters. I mean, if something happans too ya i guess its different but come on....

reply

Well what if you ended a season with 2997 hits? Do you really think someone should go through spring training and a new season to reach 3000 hits? It's an arbitrary number and doesn't mean you will or won't get in.

reply

Frank Robinson had 2,943 hits. You tell him he was a lazy ballplayer. I don't care if he's 72 years old.

Yes, he also had 586 home runs, which is what really got him in. He didn't need those last 57 hits -- or the 14 homers he would've needed for 600 -- to get in. You? You shouldn't be let into the Hall of Fame, even with a ticket!

reply

frank robinson is a bum.

reply

I know your comment was 17 years ago and you’ll never see this. But you don’t know baseball at all if you believe that every player who got at least 2,800 hits is in the hall.

reply

That has to be the stupidest thing I have read in a while. You have absolutely no clue about baseball.

reply

I don't remember really laughing much at Mr. 3000.

reply

I didn't really enjoy this movie either, the first time I saw it -- and I love baseball movies. The second time, though, I really appreciated it a lot more. The "workout" scene when Stan is trying to get back into shape really cracks me up and I practically leap out of my seat cheering when I see the hidden ball trick -- loved it!

Now, just about every time it's on TV, I watch it -- the most commonly uttered phrase in my house is "Mr. 3000, AGAIN?!" lol

The only baseball movie I've seen that I absolutely hated was "Fever Pitch", but I probably didn't enjoy it, because I'm a huge Cardinals fan and the 2004 World Series was truly shameful! (Oh, yeah, and I can't take Drew Barrymore seriously as an adult...)

reply

I liked "Fever Pitch," but then, I'm a Yankee Fan, so, to me, that's a horror film. And as for Drew Barrymore, I'd LOVE to take her... seriously, as an adult. Even if she did break the Curse of the Bambino. (Drew, how COULD you? For Jimmy Freakin' Fallon?)

reply

three thousand hits is cool, but four thousand hits still doesn't gaurantee the hall.

I mean Pete Rose is the king of hits and he's not even in.......

They must have high standards or something.

Queue up "300" I'm in need of an adrenaline shot.

reply

You realize Pete Rose was banned, right?

If they let people who were on steroids in, they SHOULD let pete rose in. I think he will eventually make it in.
