The compleate series or the movie dvds?

Hey there, Been thinking about getting into this but I'm not sure if i should buy the compleate box set of the season of if i should buy the stand alone dvds. I'm really confused, are the dvds just a more compact version of the story arc from the show and do I need to watch the season to fully understand them. any help would be great.

Firstly, there's the two movies, GITS, and GITS:Innocence.

Then there's "Stand Alone Complex", which follows a completely separate storyline, kind of like in an alternate universe. It consists of 1st Gig (or series), 2nd Gig, and Solid State Society. Both gigs (series) you can get in either the complete boxset, individual volumes (2 episodes per volume), and they've introduced a box entitled "Stand alone complex - the individual eleven" which is basically a cut down version of the 2nd series, so not really worth bothering with IMO.

Stand Slone Complex: Solid State Society is again a movie, but following on from 2nd Gig.

So the movies aren't really the same as the series, and it's worth watching all of them! I liked the movies a lot, and saw them first, but generally I prefer the series, there's more time to develop the characters etc. Hope that helps

Yeah don't watch the individual DVD's about the main stories in the series. They're just copypasta.

Ok, so what's the difference between:

GITS:SAC and GITS:SAC The Laughing Man

or

GITS:SAC 2nd Gig and GITS: SAC 2nd Gig The Individual Eleven

All four are offered on Netflix....

Is it possible that episodes that don't comply are not a part of the set (for instance, in 1st gig, all episodes that don't pertain to Laughing Man are not in the Laughing Man set?) If so, that's stupid...who wouldn't want all the episodes....

Or is it something else? Someone who has compared please let me know.

Thanks.

The movie dvd's are just the segments of each season that pertain to the particular storyline written on the DVD's.
