Still can't remember a single thing about it, but I've definitely seen it. Elektra in the red get-up with the blades? I've seen it for sure. The vaguest of memories returned when I saw it on the 'more like this' section on IMDB.
I might rewatch this alongside Catwoman (2004). Yeehaa!
I've seen and remember Catwoman... when I say that I mean I couldn't tell you a damn thing about it but I definitely saw it and remember where. Me, my brother and my cousin rented it. Probably just to fawn over Halle Berry. I think we actually liked it. It has a horrid reputation but it was just us (a couple of dudes) watching a hot chick kick ass. Sort of like the appeal of Resident Evil (2002) and Underworld (2003). Good times.
Elektra just hit different man. I COMPLETELY forgot it existed until a few minutes ago. I never ever hear anyone talk about this film. But it just seeped back to me ever so slightly. I reckon me and the crew must have rented it back in those days, not long after Catwoman. It has a low rating on IMDB but fuck it, IMDB can lick my balls. I bet it'll be a fun watch.
Definitely nobody talks about Elektra. It seems to be one of those movies that truly came and went and now it has just passed out of society's collective consciousness and it's as if it never existed.
It looks like my library has the Elektra Blu-Ray in stock and HBO Max has Catwoman. Fuck it. I'm going to watch them.
BTW, since you like action movies with female leads, and we're talking about a Jennifer Garner film, if you haven't seen it you should check out Peppermint.
Elektra was solid enough, the visual aesthetic (saturated and high contrast) is dated, it was the 'cool' and 'hip' thing to do back then but aside from that it's a decent mid-00s action/super-hero flick. The superpowers of some of the characters were interesting. Decent film.
Catwoman was fun. It's the 38th lowest rated film on IMDB (at least on the 'bottom 100' list, films with less than 10,000 votes don't rank). Which is completely baffling to me. I prefer it over most of the modern Marvel & DC films. I think it's just one of those things that got bandwagoned. It was cool to trash it. It's got sex appeal, some camp humor and decent action. The CGI honestly holds up quite well considering the film is now 18 years old.
Yeah I guess when I think about it I am a big fan of action movies with Female leads. The Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider flicks were others I really enjoyed back in the 00s, and still to this day.
Never heard of Peppermint. I'll look it up, thanks for the suggestion.
All right, well I picked up the Elektra Blu-Ray from the library today so I guess I'm doing this thing.
Let me check it out and I'll chime back in.
As for Peppermint, definitely give it a look. I thought it was a fun movie that seemed delightfully out-of-step with Hollywood's left-wing politics.
And I also enjoy a good female-fronted action film. I really liked Underworld back in the day, the Resident Evil movies are fun, the first Tomb Raider with Angie was pretty good (sequel sucked though and remake was bland). I think at this point we are probably OVERSATURATED with such films, but I'm happy to watch a hot woman kick ass.

I enjoyed Peppermint 👍 Good action flick, and Garner sells both the action and the drama. 7/10

Definitely underrated. I went into it with low expectations and walked out pleasantly surprised. Garner did do a good and was physically up to the task even though she was in her mid-40s.
I just looked and saw it had a $25 million budget and it made $53 million globally. I wonder if the studio was happy with that.
I quite like this film. Jennifer Garner seemed unhappy with it and it was not well received but I thought it was OK. I quite like the poorly made and badly CGI'd Catwoman as well. In each case the leads make the film watchable.
