Anyone else think the little girl at the beginning...

...Was originally supposed to be the protagonists daughter?
I always found it pretty bizarre she just casually walks into their house. They leave the front door unlocked? Can zombies even open doors?

reply

She was the girl at the start on skates. The protagonist clearly babysat for her on occasion.

I knew it was the girl on skates. That's not the point. And there's nothing "clear" about it. You're just making shit up.

How very dare you. Goodbye sir!

I may be misremembering, but did the girl call Ana (protagonist) by her first name when she spoke to her when skating on the street? I can't find that part on ytube.

But, I certainly remember getting the impression they were not her parents. But yes also weird that she had wandered into their house.

As a theory, she may have been attacked in her own home (she was in a nightgown) and gone to them for help, letting herself in (safe neighborhood without locked doors), then turned just after she entered their house.

1 easy to miss line. And I dunno about you but the husbands reaction to the neighbor girl being at their bedroom in the morning is pretty nonplussed. Seems more like a "oh my daughters waking me up again"
Zach Snyder even says on the DVD commentary that a lot of people think she's their daughter

But I guess the question of how she would get infected dispels my theory. Unless she was at a sleepover

The husband says "Vivian's here" in a way that suggested to me she was a girl who sometimes dropped in to say hi to them. lol That's just speculation on my part of course.

The fact she gets no mention between Ana talking to her on the street and her appearing in their hallway as a monster leads me to think she's not family too.

One of them saying "where's Vivian" or something before they started rutting like bunnies would seem appropriate if she was their daughter too, but it sure seemed to me like they were a lone couple.

reply

Dropped in at dawn in their bedroom? That's fucking weird.
Also her not being mentioned? That's like a minute.
Anna's husband is never mentioned at all for the rest of the movie. you'd think she wasn't married. So I don't find it a stretch. Zach Snyder clearly didn't want too much angst.

Ah, I found something.

From the transcript of the movie: Ana to Vivian - - 'Say hey to your mom for me, OK?'
