Why did they name the characters after George Michael?

Not saying he isn't a legend, but I'm wondering why it was him of all people. Any writer interviews or something that explain why?

I'm waiting for like, a reference or something, but I'm half way through season 2 and all I ever heard was Michael Cera's character mention George Micheal one time off hand.



No explanation but I've always assumed it's because Michael Bluth is so obsessed with naming his son after his father and himself that he wouldn't realize he's naming his son after someone that was already really famous when GM was born.

There is part of a story line about it in season 4.

But it turns out that actor George Maharis enjoys getting jiggy with it in men's rooms as much as singer/songwriter George Michael.
