I never got the impression he was expecting someone else. I mean, for starters, he could have told her to take a hike, if that were the case. And it's not like she was hugely overweight or 75 years old or something.

He described her as having sandy blonde hair, which technically LaFonda did, even though it appears to have been dyed. So whether the writers meant for that to imply Kip didn't know she was black, I don't know. But clearly he didn't care - the first thing he does when she steps off the bus is break into a satisfied grin as though he thinks she's really hot.

He also told Uncle Rico he'd seen her face (complaining he'd gotten a headshot, but not a full-body one), so unless we're to believe he made that up to save face because he was embarrassed he'd never even seen the woman he'd been IM-ing, her appearance - tranny or no - didn't seem to bother him.

Nah, Kip was ticked he never got a full body photo, but he clearly got the right photos from the neck up. Since he thought he got the person he fantasied about, and they continued to build their relaionship once they met in person, how could LaFawnduh have catfished Kip?

By your question it sounds like you missed the scene after the credits (on my DVD) where Kip marries LaFawnduh. Where did you get the impression he was disappointed? LaFawnduh's brother, on the other hand, looked mortified at the wedding.

The LaFawnduh character doesn't work for me at all. There's something wrong with her: she seems like a con woman, or a nutcase, or a woman with a huge nerd-fetish, or something. I think the movie wants us to think that she is simply a sincere and seductive woman who really likes Kip. It just doesn't ring true for me.

What else do you think she could be?

Well, I like all the other characters, and the movie too.

Napoleon, Pedro, Deb, and Kip are my favorites.

You never heard the expression "opposites attract"?

Yes of course the pairing of a hip Detroit black woman with a white nerd from Idoaho is very unlikely. But so is a lot of stuff in this movie just go with it.

When Kip says she has "sandy, blonde hair" he is being accurate and truthful but he is also obviously hiding the fact that she is black from Uncle Rico and from the audience.

We get a pretty strong clue she is black when we learn her name is "La Fawnduh" (a borderline racist rendition of that name). So the clever viewer shouldn't be too surprised when we finally see a large, blonde black woman coming off the bus.

I think she just had a fetish for the boy/nerdy look. She seems happy to be with him and when they get married you can see her father/brother just facepalming hard. LOL.

Me, too. It makes me wonder if that was in the original script and then changed. That might explain why some feel that part didn't fit well with the preceding Kip/LaFawnduh story.

Don't agree with the racist thing, though. I got a call from a customer named LaZanya when I worked at the phone company.
