Not as Bad as I'd Hoped
After several years of hearing that this was one of the worst films ever made and the comparisons of its director to Ed Wood, I expected to be appalled by visible boom mics, bad dubbing, out of focus shots and actors forgetting their lines. Well, now I've seen it. What I got was a goofy flick the like of which I've seen dozens of times on SyFy. It's a competently put together hunk of junk. Should it have ever seen the theatrcal light of day? No, of course not. This should have gone straight to video. Maybe if I'd paid $9 to see it in the theaters I'd have been pissed. But I saw it like most folks have--on video.
That said, I don't understand the vitriolic hatred of this film I see here on IMDB and elsewhere on the Internet. I mean, COME ON! If BloodRayne is the worst, most poorly made film you've ever seen--horror or otherwise--then you just couldn't have seen very many films! I have seen literally hundreds of films much worse than this. MUCH, much,MUCH worse! If you go to Netflix and stream 10 new releases you've never heard of in the action catagory and 10 you've never heard of in the horror catagory, I guarantee you that you'll see at least 18 films worse than this one. (Steven Seagal anyone?)
The pile on hatred of this flick is just some kind of mass nerd hypnosis by people who want to feel superior to something along with a bunch of other people.
