About abortion, Vera Drake

1- It's not about abortion being morally right or wrong. It's about a woman who has no medical experience whatsoever, doing dangerous operations on pregnant women. She knew she was doing something wrong. I know everything is three-dimensional, and I know things are not simply wrong or right sometimes, but everyone knows that no human being has the right to perform an operation, and a possibly fatal one because of the probable infection, except a doctor. We would have a discussion about the morality of abortion only if a doctor was performing this.

2- Vera Drake, I do see her as a three-dimensional human being as any one us. We are not saints for helping out people and we're not devils when we hurt them. I do not condemn her because no one of us is sin-free, and because no one has the right to judge their fellow human beings. I am only talking about the act. It was 100% wrong, and I couldn't sympathize with her, knowing that she endangered the lives of many young women, and maybe some died and she didn't know. Anyone should punished for breaking an "ethical" law. I can't by any means see how she shouldn't be punished, and I can't by any means, perceive how she had done all those operations and never rethought or even reconsider the consequences.

3- They were saying "2 years and 6 months" as if they were going to kill her. Abortion by an un-certified practitioner, I guess, is punished by a far more longer sentence.

Would like to start a discussion :)
