Why didn't she win an award for Maria in West Side Story?
shareBecause she had 'Splendor in the Grass' in that same awards calander year, which is often regarded as her greatest performance. Despite what you may think too, she was regarded as miscast by MANY people in West Side Story.

Russ Tamblyn was dubbed only for The Jet Song
Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer are the only ones who were dubbed through the whole show.
Natalie did Just fine in West Side Story, plus, she had such a beautiful voice, the had no reason to dub her at all. Richard Beymer knew he couldn't sing, so he didn't even bother to try. Natalie could sing beautifully, they had no reason to dub her.
