Just Realized How Sexist It Is

It really pains me to say it because I think this movie is hilarious, but if you think about it, it definitely has sexist attitudes.

For example, in the beginning montage where Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn pick up chicks at weddings, every woman is just a passive, gullible waif. They don't think for themselves- they just go along with every dumb story the guys throw them.

And then with Rachel McAdams- she's engaged to an a**hole, and even though she seems smart-ish and independent, she's incapable of seeing him for what he is. She needs Owen Wilson to rescue her from making the biggest mistake of her life.

There's no strong female figures- every woman floats along helplessly, waiting to be affected by the men's decisions. Or, they're sex crazed like the mother.

One exception might be Isla Fisher's character, but she is too crazy to be taken seriously.

I just wish that contemporary comedies could find a way to incorporate humor and romance without relying on trite gender stereotypes.

Wait a tick, are you telling me that a movie whose premise is two guys crashing weddings and plowing as many hot chicks as they can, is sexist?

Shocking....I really expected more of a Julia Roberts RomCom, only with lots more tits.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

Sorry, but the male wedding guests were just as fooled by John and Jeremy's false stories and identities, so it's not like they were just picking on women with these scenes.

Claire didn't strike me as being unable to see her boyfriend for what he was; his snapping at her in the bathroom didn't seem to surprise her all that much, not to mention her obvious reluctance about the relationship's longevity and the idea of marrying him during the beach talk with John. She more likely saw some of Zack's dickish behavior but willed herself looked past it, if anything because she would otherwise be alone, and would disappoint her father and his desire to marry the two families for prestigious reasons.

I agree that there are no strong female characters, but you don't always need them. Why can't a movie just be geared toward guys instead of being either balanced or girl power-oriented?

Did you also think it was sexist that it made males being raped and sexually assaulted as being funny or do you just see sexism against women.

Wilsons character was forced to touch the mums boobs, vaughn's character was sexually assaulted at the dinner table then later raped by fisher's character then sexually assaulted by the brother but it's ok because they're men. I wonder if fisher's character woke up to find herself tied down and after saying no vince gags and rapes her it would be seen as funny.

This movie is far more sexist against men than women.

This. What a monotoned argument for gender stereotyping and sexism the OP has.

it's a guy flick, the characteristic of a guy flick is that women in it are presented in a way that guys want them to be

The movie does not say that all women are gullible waifs. Just the ones the crashers targeted. Jeremy and John carefully chose the women they wanted to hit on. At one point Jeremy looks at one girl and says: “Tattoo on the back. Might as well be a bullseye”.

Then at Claire’s sister’s wedding, John says: “Be careful with girls with hats. They tend to be very proper.”

As guys get older, they learn how to read women better. If you have lots of experience like Jeremy and John, you get really good at it. They know which women would go along with them and which one’s wouldn’t.

As for Claire. It is way too common for nice and smart girls to be with total douchebags. In Claire’s case she was very insecure. You can tell when she talks about the wedding joke and with her insecurities about Zack.

More importantly, she faced pressure from her family. She comes from a very wealthy family and Zack came from another one. He father really wanted their families to join. That is why Zack even talks asks him when Claire says she can’t marry him.

So, not a sexist movie. Just a comedy that touches on issues that happen on real life.
