Are you ready for black Rapunzel?

They are doing a live-action remake of this, and I for one am completely excited to see how they update the story to fit our current cultural zeitgeist. It will be so good!

They already did it on "Once Upon A Time." If they really wanted to impress us, they would cast a white, blond chick to play Tiana in "Princess and the Frog." The screaming of the hypocritical, race-obsessed left would be music to my ears. Maybe then they'd burn down Walt Disney studios and do us all a favor.

Disney is basically sabotaging itself at this point. They are killing a lot of good will on the fanbase they had built over so many years.

If someone is trying to destroy Disney, they're doing a fine job. The company is hurting financially, people aren't watching the new stuff, customers are cancelling their Disney+ subscriptions, stock is down, and people aren't coming to the parks as much. I doubt even Blackrock can make up the costs that the company is losing right now. It's very possible they lied to Disney and told them they could have as much investment money as they wanted, so long as the ESG score in their content was high. But it makes you wonder, if Blackrock is giving them money to be woke, why is Disney still hurting financially? Blackrock is one of the richest investment firms in the world. Are they getting stingy or something?

I wonder if they will even re-make that one considering it wasn't exactly a big financial success.

reply

What are you talking about? It was a hit with half a billion gross on its initial release (thank you Wikipedia), and is still popular with the kind of people who re-watch Disney movies and who buy them for their kids and grandkids. Of course I have no estimate on how much money Disney has made from Rapunzel dolls and Halloween costumes and other princess crap, but I think it's a lot, because I've heard that Disney's real main profit stream is from merchandising rights, and only makes movies to sell dolls and crap.

And incidentally, it's also a very good movie. I'm over sixty, don't like princessy stuff in general, and I love the movie!

reply

I was referring to Princess and the Frog, which had a budget of 105 million and a gross of 267 million.

reply

Sorry!

Not such a good movie. It's okay, but not a lot more than okay.

reply

Agreed, honestly.

reply

The Voodoo Doctor was worth watching, though.

And I mentioned that Disney supposedly makes more money from merchandising than from the actual movies, so it's possible that on that front, "TPatF" has been a financial success overall. Maybe enough that it might be worthwhile to make yet another crap live-action remake, which will get people at least watching the original and girls buying Tiana crap. Anything can make a profit, if the budget is realistic enough.

THE MONEY THEY MAKE FROM THE MERCHANDISE IS HUGE AND ENDLESS...EVEN A "SMALLER" DISNEY FILM LIKE PRINCESS AND THE FROG ADORNS A MULTITUDE OF ITEMS AVAILABLE IN ALMOST EVERY STORE THAT SELLS SUCH THINGS.

I SOLD A PRINCESS AND THE FROG SNOWGLOBE FOR ALMOST 400 DOLLARS A FEW YEARS AGO.

reply

Jeez, I should have spent every possible cent on fandom crap and not worried about not having the space for it!

All I've got is a decent One Ring, and a Light Saber. No problems storing those!

reply

Wow...that is a good investment. You're so lucky.

Based on the fact that they're doing live-action versions of "Moana" and "Lilo and Stitch," I'd say they're getting pretty desperate for material to work with. There's been talk recently of Bob Iger trying to stop the theatrical release of the new Snow White film, because he's finally figuring out that they've got another box office bomb on their hands. I guess it takes a few years of losing a lot of money before that bonehead finally figured out what we all knew 7 years ago. You can't keep peddling crap and blaming your customers for not liking your product and make a profit all at once.

reply

MOANA AND STITCH WERE BOTH BIG ICONIC HITS...THAT IS NOT WHAT IS CALLED DESPERATE FOR MATERIAL.

reply

"Moana" and "Stitch" were original films, and fun! "Moana" is even pretty good!

No, I think the reference to "peddling crap" was a reference to the 100% godawful live-action remakes of classic films. Those things are utterly without merit, being painful to watch and lacking the tiniest shred of originality, and anyone ever wants to work up a mob that will run the people who made them out of the LA Basin, I've got a torch and pitchfork all ready to go.
