and how a hipster like Twisp wouldn't be KILLING IT w/ girls in Oakland. Did the director even GO to Oakland, once? Why set the film there in the first place? Gah.

people never notice the lack of different races in movies or shows until someone points it out. that just goes to show most people dont care, they just watch the movie for the movie's sake.
and i'm sure its no coincidence that 99% of the people who complain about the lack of different races tend to be white people. you know the type, they have some insecurity and guilt issues with their race so they do things like this to say "hey look at me, i'm white and i care about you people too".
makes me wonder if there are black people who complain that you never see white people in suburban type movies or shows or that when you do, they are stereotypes.

What world are you from? Havent ever seen a white person go out of their way to mention the lack of a race in a film. Even if so, your assumption of the reason why is lacking coherency. Guilt for what? The only reason that a white person would say that would be to reassure the race in question that they want equality with them, more than likely because that race has put unnecessary pressure on them.
shareI honestly think you guys are being a little too hard on the OP. To me, it is an issue of realism rather than racism. It is not surprising either though as movies & television do this type of garbage all the time. You should never assume anything about movies & television shows as it is all just the perspective we're given by the director(s).
I'm no fan of "token" black people in film either just to satisfy a meaningless quota (ie: "Charlie St. Cloud") but let's not jump down a guy's throat for simply stating the obvious.
The OP has a point. If you know anything about OAKLAND, you'd understand why. I did think of it during the film, but it's nothing that I cared too much about.
