Extremely "american" trial movie

It's supposedly based on a German case.
No where in Europe - with the exception of the papal state - would someone argue her clients innocense on the basis of "is God good"? The whole notion of the defence strategy is so utterly beyond common sense it spoils the movie. It's not likely - hopefully any defense would be allowed based on the highly debatable facts of the existance of "God".

Did you even watch the movie?

Based on a German case or not, it was set in the US so of course it was "extremely American"

I don't even understand how the priest could be liable for negligent manslaughter in any way. He didn't do this to her, hurt her, or deny her medical care. At least the prosecution wouldn't be able to prove that. So why was it his fault?

It wasn't really in dispute that a doctor and the parents were there and that Emily refused medical care of her own free will.

Or does not forcing someone to accept help he doesn't want as negligent manslaughter?

See "Requiem" 2006 German film. It's excellent. Shudder has it if you're a subscriber. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454931/
