This is already boring

Today i wanted to watch some good film on tv. So i opened program and found a film "Normal" with jessica Lange - i checked on IMDB - it had high rating. I was glad, i read a description and... no, gays and transexuals again.
So i started to look for another film and i found "Transamerica" on another channel - i checked it's rating - great, even higher, so i read a description...
It must be some tv week of transsexuals (but on all channels?), cause yesterday there was a movie with Charlize Theron in tv - also with transsexuals....
Or maybe it's true what some ultracatholics are saying - that we are subjects of gay/lesbian/transsexual propaganda campaign. I never bothered with all those conspiracy theories, but now im starting to wonder.... I mean why Hollywood makes films only about all those minorities, like there's no other people on this planet?
Not that im nazi who hates them, im just tired of them, i don't watch tv very often, but when i try - i see homosexuals and all their kinds. Don't you think it's weird?

Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.

I dunno where u live but I've never seen a show about transgendered people on tv methinks . I HAVE seen asians, latinos, blacks, crippled people, blind people, elderly people , drug addicts, sex addicts, morbidly obese folks, and scrawny bulimics all IN ONE NIGHT of television. So my friend I think you probably have some gay channels there LOL...

Wow...since ignorance is bliss, you must be one happy person. Or, just a hater. I'm guessing both.

They walk among you.
Seriously, the vast majority of TV/movie characters are heterosexual, so I'm not sure what your problem is. Or does one GLBT character spoil the entire movie otherwise filled with heteros.

Movies where the main character is gay or transsexual are a tiny percentage of the number of movies out there, I promise.

I think movies and tv shows are showing much more of sexual orientation issues now because it's pretty much the first time they have been able to do it so freely. For decades, since the start of movie-making, it's a subject that was largely ignored so they're taking advantage of this opportunity to do so. We'll probably see much more of it until the novelty wears off and the audience becomes comfortable with the subject. It's probably not going to just "go away" but will become a normal part of tv shows and movies to where the audience won't think much of it after a while. I think it's a good thing for people with various sexual orientation issues that it's becoming more openly dealt with.

Good point, Goomba. It's like how "token black guys" were blatant in a lot of older movies and shows, but not so obvious anymore.

I want this idiot's tv. I search tv and the net ceaselessly for trans-centric films or tv shows, and find sweet eff all, and this closet bigot finds them every single time he turns on the goddamn tv? If ever there were proof God is a woman.... no man would ever have the imagination to acheive this level of poetic cruelty.

You've got to admit that there are way more tv shows and movies involving gay and bi issues and characters and different kinds of sexual orientation scenarios than there ever has been but the OP is definitely in an extreme with it's "all they make" and talking of "conspiracy". I think it's admirable that these people are able to bring this stuff out in the open. No person should have to feel like they have to hide important aspects of themselves and live in shame and fear. It's painful and unhealthy to live that way. Also, all these productions and characters help educate people who are ignorant about such things.

Last week's episode of Special Victims Unit was exceptionally good about how it treated trans-issues tho, I admit.

Are you serious? Do you really think that half a BILLION people is minority?

Do you really think that half a BILLION people is minority?

Yes. A population that is not a majority is, by definition, a minority. There's nothing wrong with being a minority though.

Whats sad about this statement above, is that you talk about "normal" folk never having movies made about them. What you don't realize, is that all the "normal" folk you know all have interesting histories, quirks, desires, backgrounds, ethnicity or whatever, that you dont even know. You make a generalization thinking that there is a group of "normal" folk. From your statement, the only thing that would be normal is you, is people who are exactly like you.

You may have a lot of similarities with someone but they will have their differences. The movies you reference are about people and there experience or struggles. Thats what movies are for. To share, to bring entertainment.

You give the impression that want to be in an isolated bubble where only your opionions matter and only and only your "people" exist.

The other thing that strikes this as fake or someone who just doesn't "get it", is that he says "this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. goodbye".

That just SCREAMS "i want to throw out a statement and cause a flamewar"

Oh such little thrills.

Dont report on movies if you dont like the subject matter, as a matter of fact, change the channel if there is something on you dont like. With 100 plus cable stations these days, there is always something alternative that i am sure will suit your tastes.

Unbelieveable! First off, films, by nature, are about unusual things. If you wanted a perfect representation of regular life, look out your window.

Second, do some math. The MPAA, as of 2009, has 45,000 films. Of those, 2 are "transgender films" (Normal and Boys Don't Cry) or 1/22,500. The rest are cisgender films. Trans people make up ~ 1/1,000 people. Statistically, we're way under-represented in film. Man, we trans people suck at propaganda, huh?
