No chaperones?

Now - it could be that things are done differently in US hospitals and that may just be the answer to my query...

I'm only into Season 2 thus far, but there appear to be multiple times where one of "the team" is with a patient of the opposite sex, alone, and has to investigate/look at something that here in the UK I am sure would have a chaperone present. eg Foreman feeling a woman's breast for breast cancer, Cameron getting a bloke to drop his strides to check his groin.

Is this normal in US healthcare ? No chaperone for situations that could expose either party to accusations or abuse?
