They made him so bratty and he kept on taking the book out of the circle and waving it around despite being repeatedly told that doing so would bring the destruction of everyone. Then later he says no one told him what would happen if the main baddie got the book even though he had been told at least 5 times at that point.

As a group, they are literally the worst protagonists I have ever seen in a movie. It ruined what was an otherwise acceptable movie for me.

Well, wasn't that the whole point of his character? Disobey, rebel and be completely stubborn. I'm just saying I wouldn't expect a kid with his problems to follow orders... even in a situation like the one he found himself in.
I do understand if some viewers felt that the actor - or the writers - still made him too unlikable. I mean, the way he kept putting everyone in danger by constantly doing what he was told not to was inexcusable and certainly irritating. He didn't exactly get on my nerves though.

He was a very annoying child actor who was overrated in all his acting roles. The kid in the film though is supposed to be a bit obnoxious & do silly things that kids so.
