When did the show 'jump the shark'?

I think it was the introduction of Nikki's never before mentioned daughter and ex-husband. When you have to bring in a new kid(s) that's usually a sign the show is jumping! The Ana story was sorta a pre-shark jumper but not as bad as the Caralynne story.

I see where you're coming from, because nothing from that storyline seemed to fit the rest of the show. It was oddly distracting in fact, and I can't figure out what Nikki having a daughter really added to the show.

To me it was the Senate run. I mean come on, all the people who have found out about Bill being a polygamist throughout the previous seasons, and nobody says a word? Nobody from the Indian reservation, the governor's wife or her staff, Wendy, Heather's family, Abby or someone else from the compound?

It was no secret that Bill grew up at Juniper Creek and that he was on the UEB board, and no local reporter or investigator dug into his private life to see if he still lived the principle?

This. That whole political run for the office was definitely a reach. He risked it all for the sake of polygamy, something he's been hiding well for years and wanted to put all on the line just to live a "normal life", which is impossible when you're a polygamist in the US.

In real life Bill would have been thoroughly investigated and exposed. There are no secrets these days.

But since this is pure fiction, anything goes. Bill's run for the Senate was not believable at all and was in fact a pretty dull storyline.

The first three seasons of BL are wonderful, the last two not so much. I hated the ending, but overall I really liked the show. It was thought provoking and well acted. Worth a second viewing. The Juniper Creek bunch were very realistic and creepy. Grace Zabriskie and Bruce Dern were terrific as Bill's parents.
